Manchester United have reached agreement to sign transfer prime target Harry Maguire from Leicester City, according to reports.
United have been drawn into protracted talks with Leicester City over a potential move for the player.
The fragility of Man United defense saw them conceded a staggering 54 goals in the league last season and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on fortifying this aspect of his squad.
Despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claim United will not pay overboard to sign any of their targets, it appears Maguire is set to become the most expensive centre-back in the World.
United had seen bids for the Three Lions star rebuffed but according to Bleacher Report journalist Dean Jones, the Red Devils have agreed an £80m deal to sign the 26-year-old.
When completed, this will eclipse the amount Liverpool paid to sign Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton.
Maguire is expected to slot into the first team Man United along Chris Smalling or Eric Bailly or even Victor Lindelof.
While the fans of United have been thrown into a frenzy over Maguire’s imminent signing, it appears he did not do better than Chris Smalling last season.
We obtained a stats for two players via Premierleague.com, which revealed Smalling did better albeit you can argue he played in a better team with lesser pressure.
Smalling featured in 21 league games for United last season , he had a 57% successful tackles rate while Maguire finished the season with 55%.
Smalling had made an average of 1.3 tackles per game against Maguire’s 1.0
Meanwhile in terms of duels won, the both averaged 5.8 while Smalling won more aerial duels 4.3 to Maguires 3.8
No disrespect to Maguire, he is no doubt a quality player but he is yet to prove to be an upgrade to one of Man United’s players. Although he may do better at United as it is given that he’d be playing around some quality players.
