Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their quest to bolster their attack following the decision of Alexis Claude-Maurice to join German side Borrussia Monchengladback, per reports.
The Gunners are looking to replace Danny Welbeck, who was released as a free agent this summer and they have been heavily linked with a move for Claude-Maurice.
The youngster reportedly agreed personal terms to join Arsenal last week. This came after the Gunners submitted two different two bids for the youngster which were rejected by Lorient.
Arsenal were still expected to return with a third bid as they are desperate to add players to their rank. However, the 21-year-old star has laid bare his desire to ply his trade in the Bundesliga with Monchengladback.
Alexis Claude Maurice in L’Équipe: “I want to join Gladbach. They are a club that focus on young players, there is a good structure, they are playing in the Europa League. I like their project & it suits me.”

Apparently, the youngster is looking to walk into a team where he’d be regularly featured. The presence of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette means the French striker cannot get into the first team of Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are yet to sign a player in this transfer window despite the obvious need to new faces at the club.
Emery is operating with a paltry transfer budget, it is left to be seen how he utilises the same funds.
