The Gunners may have found the ideal replacement for their retired captain. Arsenal will be unable to sign several players as their fans would have loved, thanks to a tight budget this season. However, you can rejoice for you won’t have to miss Laurent Koscielny that much.
Having arrived in 2010, Koscielny quickly made his mark in an Arsenal team that featured the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie.
Although he made several errors in first few years at the Emirates, the Frenchman would soon become the undisputed star at the heart of defence.
Now surpassed his best years, the Gunners are seeking solutions to a leaky defence in the absence of their leader. However, Sokratis was signed to be Kos’s natural successor.
The former Dortmund player has bagged enough experience with the Bundesliga side and played alongside Koscielny last season. It is believed that his time playing with the Frenchman was a grooming period for the 2019/20 season.
It is also believed that Sokratis will be partnering with Rob Holding in defence next season while promising Greek youngster is also in the picture.
With that in mind, the Gunners are still hoping to bring in an extra defender for the coming season.
Whatever happens in the summer, Koscielny’s likely departure has been well planned for and Unai Emery has the solutions in his team.
