The Gunners are set to complete their first summer signing as they look to bolster a squad that finished the previous season without silverware.
The Emirates outfit will be completing the signing of German goalkeeper Markus Schubert on a free transfer in the coming weeks, according to the Independent.
Having announced his retirement from the game, Petr Cech played his last match for the Gunners in their 4-1 thrashing in the hands of city rivals Chelsea in the final of the Europa League.
In a different but similar manner, goalie David Ospina is set to join Serie A giants Napoli later in the summer. These two issues coupled has made the Gunners look out for extra competition for Bernd Leno and Emiliano Martinez.
Martinez who was signed from Reading in 2010 will be donning the Gunners’ shirt this season on a permanent stay as the club’s second goalkeeper after spending majority of his nine year spell at the club on loan.
There is every possibility that Schubert will be sent on loan by Unai Emery to gain more experience.
The North London Club have reportedly told Napoli to ensure David Ospina’s £3.1m deal is finalised next week so they can make room for new signings.
The Gunners are on a tight budget this summer as they look to sign players who represent huge value for money.
