The Gunners have launched a bid to bring PSG star Thomas Meuneir to the Emirates.
According to reports, the right back is a big favourite at the Emirates despite falling down the pecking order in PSG.
The Belgian footballer made just 19 league starts in the French Ligue 1 last season. However, that hasn’t stopped Arsenal from wanting to bring the 27 year-old to North London.
According to TUTTOmercatoWEB, the Gunners have already offered £22m for the player’s signature. Meunier is also on the radar of Man United but he might fancy a move to Arsenal as it is given that he might play regularly there.
Unai Emery, the Gunners manager, won’t be given a fat budget as his rivals after missing out on the UEFA Champions League. Consequently, the Gunners are forced to play Europa League for the third consecutive season.
The former Sevilla and PSG boss is looking to bolster a sinking defence line which conceded four goals in a European final to noisy neighbours Chelsea. Having been the one who took Meuneir to PSG, it is understandable that Emery wants to work with the Belgian defender again.
The Spanish coach needs a quick and stable answer to his team’s right back frailty. Hector Bellerin is still nursing an injury while veteran Stephen Lichtsteiner has concluded his one year stay with the London club and has left.
Emery will be hoping the two clubs can reach a compromise fast as he wants to start the 2019/20 season on the best possible note.
