Arsenal are reportedly in a two battle with Tottenham for the signature of out of favour Manchester United defender Eric Baily. The Ivorian was Jose Mourinho’s first signing for United but has struggled for minutes this season and reported to be unsettled at the club.
According to the British media Arsenal and Tottenham have made enquiries about the availability of the 24-year-old ahead of the January transfer window.
Mourinho has made no secret of his dismay about his current defensive options and has targeted Napoli defensive kingpin Kalidou Koulibaly as his major transfer target. However, the United board have informed the Portuguese tactician that he would need to sell before making any expensive addition.
Several players at United have been touted to leave with Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Baily high up the list. Arsenal despite bringing in Sokratis and Lichsteiner look short in the defence and the signing of Baily would go a long way in rectifying the problem.
