Arguably the best Chelsea player in this decade, Eden Hazard is on the cusp of joining dream club Real Madrid in a big money move. Without any doubt, his boots will be difficult to fill but did Chelsea sign Christian Pulisic as replacement for Hazard?
Hazard has been a huge part of the successes recorded by Chelsea since he joined the club seven years ago. The Belgian laid bare his desire to complete a transfer this summer after he helped the Blues clinch the Europa League for a second time.
Known for his power, skill and pace, Hazard is a natural winger but he has been deployed in a false nine position – his loss for the club is certain to be colossal. Many of the club’s fans are emotional about the imminent departure of the star but the management of the club are prepared to succeed without him.
Chelsea signed American versatile midfielder Pulisic from Borrussia Dortmund in the January transfer window but the 20-year-old was immediately loaned back to the club. He has fully joined Chelsea this summer and will be a part of the squad.
Pulisic joined Dortmund when he was 15 on the winter of 2015. Following his barnstorming display for the youth side, he was called up to join the first team only when he was 16 and that was the beginning of his rise to fame.
Since he broke into the first team of the Bundesliga side in 2016, Pulisic established himself as a first team player until Jadon Sancho displaced him. Known for his high-speed dribbles like Eden Hazard, Pulisic became a bit-part player until the end of last season.
He is expected to slug it out with the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi for a starting berth at Chelsea but he is viewed by many as the replacement for Hazard. If the transfer ban handed to Chelsea is upheld, then Pulisic will be a huge addition to the side.
