Chelsea have reportedly offered a contract extension deal to rising star defender Joe Colley.
The Gambian born defender switched his country club Brommapojkarna for Chelsea in the summer of 2015 after scouts of the club were satisfied with his prospects.
He is currently in the final months of his contract but Chelsea are unwilling to let him leave for free. The Blues are looking to hand him a deal before sending him out a loan spell, reports Chelseanews, who cited Foroyaa.com.
Colley is comfortable playing as a right back but he has featured as a centre back also. He has been ever present for the Youth teams of Chelsea. He was a key player for the B team of of the club that featured in the Checkatrade Trophy outings. He scored his first goal in three years for the Chelsea Premier League B team and he has earned some plaudits.
Chelsea have a chunk of youngsters on their books. The common practice for them is to hand deals to these academy players and send them out on loan.
According to the report, Colley will be sent on a loan spell in the Championship as Chelsea “expects” him to put pen to paper on a deal. We cannot ascertain the veracity of this report but we wait to see how things unfold at Stamford Bridge.
