Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has made a case for Frank Lampard to replace Maurizio Sarri at the West London club, per reports.
Chelsea have agreed to take a compensation fee from Juventus for Maurizio Sarri, who has agreed to become the manager of the Old Lady.
Sarri decided to call time on his one year spell with the Blues. He’s still tied to a contract with the Blues for another year and this has led Juventus to agreeing a £5million fee in compensation for his existing contract.
The blues have now been linked with a plethora of managers as probable replacement for their outgoing boss. Massimiliano Allegri and Frank Lampard are top on Chelsea’s list but it is the latter that is favourite for the job.
Lampard was spotted out and about with Didier Drogba in London amid reports of the Chelsea job and that fueled further speculation over the future of the former Chelsea midfielder.
Lampard led Derby County to the Championship play-off but his side were defeated by Aston Villa. While Lampard’s technical ability has devided opinion among the fans of Chelsea, Drogba has revealed why he is the right man for the job.
‘I think it is a very good option for the club,’ the Ivory Coast legend told reporters ahead of the Soccer Aid match. ‘He has done well with Derby, taking the team to the play-off final.’
He was further asked if Lampard has enough experience and he said: ‘So he is never going to be ready, then? Does he have to wait until he is 50 to be ready? ‘I think it depends on your experience and depends on your desire to succeed and do it. If he feels ready I don’t think it is too early.’
Man United legend Rio Ferdinand has also backed Lampard to succeed at the club.
