Samuel Umtiti has ruled out a transfer away from Barcelona this summer amidst interest from Arsenal, per reports.
Umtiti, who joined Barcelona from Lyon in the summer of 2016 has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the Li Liga. However, the french tough-tackler sustained an injury last season and on his return, he became a bit-part player.
Following his lack of game time, various outlets have linked him with a move away from the Camp Nou this season but it appears that the World Cup winner is willing to stay put and fight for a place in the first team of Ernesto Valverde at Barcelona.
The Gunners had a dismal season in which the defence consistently put up a show of shame. They conceded goals with reckless abandon but Emery is keen on making his back-line impenetrable.
Although Arsenal have been linked with a plethora of players but most of their targets are midfielders and attackers. While we expect Arsenal to add at least one quality centre-back, they won’t get Umtiti.
Speaking to French outlet RTL, he said: “I have a contract, I feel happy in Barcelona.
“I had a complicated season but that’s not a reason to have desires elsewhere. I will be at Barcelona next season.”
According report will be a huge disappointment for Arsenal. Nonetheless, he is valued at 70,00 Mill. € by transfermarkt – even if he is available, Arsenal will not be able to sign him.
