EPL VAR official Anthony Taylor takes responsibility for now awarding a penalty kick to Nicolas Pepe.
Arsenal came off their Premier league game against Bournemouth with a win but the decision of the referee not to award a penalty to Nicolas Pepe has remained a subject of debate.
Pepe was obviously fouled when he tried to dribble past his Bournemouth marker but despite subjecting the final decision to the VAR, a penalty was not awarded.
And now, according to EPL VAR official Anthony Taylor, even though he stuck with the referees decision, he has claimed Pepe should have been awarded a penalty.
It was unanimously agreed on beIN SPORTS that the EPL VAR was wrong not to award a penalty after they reviewed the incident.
“Anthony Taylor in VAR today did think this was (a penalty) yesterday, did not overturn the referee’s decision. We’ve just seen close on an assault in the box that once again he didn’t feel he should overturn the decision of the on-field ref,” Richard Keys said.
This decision did not go down well with the Arsenal fanbase who thought it was strange and disappointing from the VAR officials.
It is still in the place of the referee to make the final call regardless of a decision thrown at him. In some of these cases where the referee isn’t convinced, he can subject his own decision to video screen.
Since the institution of the EPL VAR, fans and pundits have been divided over its use. It has turned out to favour and go converse to teams alike.
Arsenal already identify Unai Emery’s replacement
Arsenal have failed to record a single victory in their four previous Premier League and the Gunners faithfuls are calling for Unai Emery’s dismissal as soon as possible.
The North London club were defeated 2-0 by Leicester City on Saturday, a result which put them in the sixth position with 17 points from 12 matches.
It was earlier reported that the Gunners hierarchy are willing to respect their contractual agreement with the former PSG manager by giving him the chance to be at the helm of affairs till the end of the season but that could change anytime soon.
According to Spanish media El Confidencial, the Gunners board members are losing their patience with the Spanish tactician and they are reportedly in search of his replacement.
The same source revealed that former Barcelona and Spain head coach Luis Enrique is being considered as the best man for the job.
Enrique, who surprisingly left his post as Spain head coach this year, is heavily linked with Gunners managerial position but it is left to be seen if he will accept the offer midway through to the campaign.
Former Manchester United manager José Mourinho was earlier said to be leading the race for the job but the Arsenal’s head of football Raul Sanllehi quickly debunked the rumors.
Arsenal star set to leave the Emirates in January
Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka is experiencing one of his most difficult times at the Emirates Stadium since his unhealthy incident with his own fans few weeks ago.
The Swiss midfielder was appointed the Gunners captain by Unai Emery at the early stages of the season, a decision which doesn’t go well with fans.
Unfortunately, Xhaka couldn’t keep the captain’s armband for a long period of time as he was stripped off the position following his avoidable spat with his own fans during their 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace last month.
However, situation got worse for the former Borussia Monchengladbach star who has failed to feature in the last three matches played the Gunners.
To worsen the player’s situation at the Emirates Stadium, report via the Mirror claimed that Unai Emery and his employers are ready to cash-in on his services in January.
According to the British media, Arsenal board members are willing to release the Switzerland international in January even if they won’t make much profit from his sale.
It should be recalled that the Xhaka joined the Gunners from Monchengladbach in a £34m deal, but The Mirror revealed that the Gunners are expecting inexpensive offer from potential suitors when the next transfer window commences.
Unai Emery delivers new Mesut Ozil announcement
Unai Emery has named Mesut Ozil as one of the Captains of Arsenal, reports the club official website.
Granit Xhaka was stripped of Arsenal captaincy following his reaction after a jeer from the fans when he was substituted in a Premier league game against Crystal Palace.
The former Borrussia Monchengladback midfielder swore at the fans and threw the captains armband on the floor before he walked into the tunnel.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been named as the club’s new captain ahead of their Europa League game against Vitoria Guimaraes.
Xhaka is not part of the Gunners squad that drew Wolverhampton Wanderers over the weekend and he has been dropped from the Europa league squad as well.
Speaking ahead of the Europa league game, Emery was quizzed on Arsenal’s captain and he named Ozil as one of his four captains.
on whether they will be another vote on the captaincy…
UE – We have now Aubameyang, Hector, Lacazette and Ozil – they are the four captains, and first is now Aubameyang. Per Arsenal.com
Ozil has featured in only two league games this season despite being the most creative player of the club.
Emery has played a chunk of his youngsters in the middle of the pack for Arsenal but following constant criticism from the fans, he has reinstated Ozil into the squad.
The world cup winner was impressive in the last two games he’s featured and he will likely play regularly for the North London club.
