The Reds may lose their star defender on a free transfer as he is being tracked by a number of German clubs.
Corey Whelan who has captained Liverpool’s U23 side and presently part of the Republic of Ireland’s U21 setup may have to leave the Anfield outfit in two weeks as his contract expires July 1.
While Whelan may be at the lower end of the spectrum with the likes of Van Dijk, Joel Matip, Trent Arnold, and Joe Gomez being more experienced and ahead of him at the miment, he is definitely a player for the future.
He has shown he is capable of being part of a winning Liverpool side thanks to his versatility. The defender is capable of playing centre back as well as right back brilliantly.
Having yet to secure a senior appearance, Whelan may be looking abroad to make his senior debut as several German clubs are keeping tabs on the youngster.
The defender is expected to join one of the many clubs vying for his signature, and will be free to negotiate with any of his suitors come July 1 if Liverpool fold their arms and do nothing.
Jurgen Klopp is still on the looks as he hopes to add depth to a title winning Liverpool team. The likes of Nicolas Pepe, Matthijs De Ligt, and Federico Chiesa are potential big money moves for the Reds.
