The midfielder has quickly become a fans’ favourite at the Emirates since making a £26m move from Sampdoria. However, the Gunners may struggle to keep the combative midfielder from the grasp of AC Milan.
Following Gennar Gattuso’s departure as AC Milan manager last season, the Italian club are reportedly after Marco Giampaolo.
Giampaolo is believed to have told new sporting director Fredderic Massara that the club should bring Lucas Torreira from Arsenal if they want to challenge Juventus’ reign, reports the Sun.
Both Torrerira and Gimpaolo have worked together for one year at Sampdoria, and the coach is keen on reuniting with the midfielder at AC Milan.
The Italian giants were unable to cause havoc for Juventus in the league last season as they finished fifth. They are now looking to make further investments in the team as they hope to fight on all cylinder next season.
Bringing Torreira to Serie A would be seen as a statement of intent and would cement Milan as a real contender for the league title which winning it would grant them a straight qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
Arsenal manager Unai Emery has been given £40m transfer war chest following his side’s failure to win any trophies and their non-qualification for Champions League football.
The Spanish manager would be able to increase his transfer budget should he sell either Torreira or Mesut Ozil. He would still have the likes of Granit Xhaka and Matteo Guendouzi to call upon.
However, the departure of Aaron Ramsey who left for Juventus means letting go of another quality midfielder would be a huge blow to the possibilities of wining any silverware next term.
