Manchester United look to have cooled interest in £90m-rated defender Harry Maguire after failing to record a breakthrough in their negotiations with Leicester City for his services.
With the summer transfer window set to close in less than a month, the Red Devils have reportedly targeted a move for Juventus defender Merih Demiral, who is seen as the capable alternative to the England international.
According to reports by teamtalk, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is furious with his inability to snatch the 26-year-old from the King Power Stadium, has told his employers to get the Juventus defender at all cost as there is an urgent need to sign quality centre-back before the upcoming season.
Demiral, 21, was on fire during his loan spell with Sassuolo last season and his display attracted Juventus attention and the Scuddetto champions wasted no time before signing him for just €18m.
Having spent just 14 days with the Old Lady, the Turkish youngster faces a very bleak future under Maurizio Sarri due to the acquisition of highly-rated and well expensive centre-back Matthijs de Ligt who officially completed his €75m move to Juventus during the week.
According to the report, United are in talks with the youngster’s representative over a possible move to the Theater of Dreams but they will compete with AC Milan who are also keeping close eye on Demiral’s situation at the Turin-based club.
United are expected to release nothing less than £35m to get Demiral who is yet to make his debut for the Bianconeris.
