Pogba likely to outlive Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may get the sack soon amid concerns also over the future of Paul Pogba.
When Manchester United resigned Paul Pogba in the summer of 2016, the fan-base of the club was thrown into hysteria. The French man had enjoyed the form of his life along the legendary Andrea Pirlo at Juventus before he was snapped up by the Red Devils in a club record fee.
He was expected to replicate the same form for Man United, alas, his form has been on and off, but he cannot be said to be a villain in the club’s story. He has been a strong force for the Red Devils in the middle of the pack, racking up 24 goals in 97 appearances in the league since 2017.
Pogba was cut a controversial figure for United during the reign of Jose Mourinho at the club. While he was expected to be sold, United sacked Mourinho and we saw a new and resurgent player under Solskjaer. Although he is currently recuperating from injury, he is still a key figure for Solskjaer.
Following United’s poor finish in the league last season and their failure to qualify for the Champions league, Pogba was believed to be unhappy and wanted out of the club. He drew the interest of Barcelona and Real Madrid but it is the latter club who made offers for him, per the Sun
Solskjaer rejected offers from Real Madrid to sell Pogba because he was a key figure in his plans for United. While Pogba has stayed put, the future of Solskjaer is now up in the air following a strings of poor performances by United.
Manchester United have managed to garner only nine points in eight Premier league games, making it their worst Premier league start in so many decades.
They play Liverpool this Sunday and there is now the general belief that any unimpressive result will lead to the sack of Solskjaer. Liverpool currently have an impeccable record in the league and so, we expect to see an exciting game.
Solskjaer is very familiar with the ideology of Man United as a former player of the side. He was widely backed on his appointment to bring back the glory days for United. Although, he had an impressive start to life as a manager of United, he has become unpopular among fans.
He sold some key players of the club in the summer including Chris Smalling, Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez. The Norwegian manager may is likely going to be the next person that would be ousted from the club.
Manchester United reach verbal agreement to sign Mandzukic from Juventus
While the January transfer is still months away, Manchester United are tipped to be heavily involved in the window.
Since his move from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2015, the Croatian has featured regularly for the Old Lady until this season.
The 33 year old striker is yet to feature for the Turin based club in the league this season, having lost his place in the team to Maurizio Sarri’s favourite striker Gonzalo Higuain.
He has now seeking a new adventure and it appears that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fancies the experience striker to join his front-line in the second half of the season..
United have scored only nine goals in the league this season and the injuries sustained by Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood have left them very thin up front.
The Red Devils are without Romelu Lukaku, who joined Inter Milan in the summer and Alexis Sanchez who was sent on a loan spell to the same Serie A club, and they have not been replaced.
Solskjaer has come under fire for the poor form of the Red Devils recently. To Salvage his job, he must fix some of the lapses apparent in his team.
United bolstered their squad in the summer with young players that have bags of potentials. Signing Mandzukic in January would be a huge departure from the belief of Solskjaer,. who has preferred to play youngsters.
Man United set to announce the departure of Alexis Sanchez
New Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte continues to reinforce every department of his team ahead of the 2019-20 Serie A season which is set to begin on the 24th of August.
The San Siro outfit had earlier confirmed the signing of Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku in a deal worth €75m earlier in the month but the former Chelsea manager isn’t done yet.
Reports that emanated from Italy in the early hours of Sunday claimed that he is keen on luring another United forward to the Italian League before the end of the month.
Alexis Sanchez is the next target for the former FA Cup winning manager and he’s reportedly doing everything to get the deal done before the close of the European summer transfer market.
The former Arsenal striker is currently rated €35m (transfermarkt) but the Serie A side are only willing to capture him on a loan deal which will include an option to buy him outrightly in the next transfer period if he lives up to his billing.
Should United eventually accept Inter Milan’s offer, this means that Conte has an option of naming a €110m-rated starting frontline (Sanchez and Lukaku) next season.
The Chilean star joined the Red Devils from Arsenal in a player-plus-cash deal involving Mkhitarryan two seasons ago but has failed to hit the ground running despite Solskjaer’s decision to give him much game-time last season. He has just three goals to his name after playing 34 Premier League games since joining the team.
